The first numbers for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1's domestic box office opening are in.
The film pulled in $30.25 million in midnight ticket sales during last night's debut, according to Box Office Mojo, from 3,521 theaters. This number is pretty much the same figure The Twilight Saga: Eclipse pulled in last summer for midnight showings.
This is a good sign for Breaking Dawn's weekend box office potential. The studio has expressed anticipation of somewhere between $110 and $125 million for the whole opening weekend, but others have made projections upwards of $148 million. The Twilight Saga: New Moon pulled in $140.7 million in its opening weekend this time two years ago, and its midnight sales were less than this, coming in at $26.27 million (which, at the time, was a new box office record).
